Established in 1967, the Department of Economics has been one of the most integral part of Swami Shraddhanand College’s academic structure. Besides the core courses and discipline specific electives offered to the students of B.A. (Programme), the Department also provides various interdisciplinary paper options to the students in the form of Generic Elective and Skill Enhancement courses. The Department of Economics has always been engaged in academic extra-curricular activities of the college including organization of seminars at the national level. Our faculty encourages mixed learning through a thoughtful combination of traditional, modern and innovative methods of delivering content in the classroom. With lectures as one of the major delivering tool, course contents are also delivered through group discussions and power-point presentations.

The Department of Economics organized a seminar in February 2017 by Dr. Saudamani Das, NABARD Chair Professor, Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi. In her talk, Dr. Das focused on the importance of economic valuation of ecosystem services for ensuring well-being of people. She also provided an in-depth analysis of a few real life case studies from different ecosystems to substantiate the arguments put forth by her.
A two-day UGC sponsored National Seminar was organized by the Department of Economics in April 2019 on Demonetization: its Economic and Political Implications in India. The seminar hosted a range of guests including Dr. Ram Singh, from Delhi School of Economics to throw light on the challenges posed to the Indian economy by the 2016 demonetization. Many research scholars from various esteemed universities, both inside and outside of Delhi, presented their research work making the conference a huge success.
